About Open Classroom Giant Rummage Sale

Previous Entry Open Classroom Giant Rummage Sale Oct. 14th, 2005 @ 01:55 pm Next Entry

Salt Lake City's Open Classroom, an optional (and free program) in the Salt Lake City school district, will be having it's 6th annual rummage sale tomorrow (Saturday, October 15) from 8 am to 5 pm at Lowell Elementary School, which is located in the Avenues between D and E Streets,  and 2nd and 3rd Avenue (approx. 400 E. and 100 N. in Salt Lake City).

This is a huge sale of items donated from families in the OC, so there's lots of stuff for families and kids. In the past there's been lots of clothes, books, toys, electronic items, furniture for sale at bargain prices. This year will feature a bake sale and a "kiddie corral" for parents that would like to shop with out the kiddies.

All the proceeds benefit the Open Classroom.

Are you an OC parent??
I was in one of the first "graduating" classes from the OC & I am seriously thinking of sending my son there when he reaches scholl age.

I am an OC parent! My daughter is in 5th grade this year, and she's been in the OC since kindergarten. Her dad, Michael Havey was in the OC from 1977 - 1983 (not the guy pictured in the avatar, that's her step-dad) so you might have known him if you were one of the earlier OC grads.

I think the OC had changed a bit since you were in the OC, but I still think it's one of the best programs out there.

How old is your son?

That is so great - OC parents are great people.

Michael Havey was one of my good friends when I was at the OC. I remember going over to his house to play with he & his cousin Jessica. Wow, small world - even smaller if you are nonmormon in Utah.

I am sure it has changed, but one constant is still the same - Carolyn is still there. She is an amazing, warm person who brings a smile to anyone's face.

Did you grow up here?

My son is currently two, going on 18. We still have a bit to wait, right now pre-school is the quest.

My daughter is in Carolyn's class this year.

I grew up in Utah, moved to Salt Lake in 1983. I was in high school (Highland) with Michael, but didn't meet him until my senior year (he was a junior).

I was a mormon until I was 19, and I'm now very much a non-mormon. I 'm still working through some residual issues from my mormon days.

So you would have been in the OC class of 1985? I'm not sure if they have the grad pictures up yet (the program just moved into a new school) but if I see them I'll try to guess which one you are in the photo.

That is great - she is such a wonderful teacher.

I was in the graduating class of 1985. I went by Mandy at that age.

Oh wow, Highland - that opens up a whole new realm of small worlds. You would have been there about the same as my brother-in-law, Dave Kizerian & one of my best friends, Matt Stout. I went to Judge.

Ok, so I was looking at your profile - how old is your youngest? Both of your girls are precious!!

Okay, I'll look for you in the photo.

My youngest is Terra, she'll be two at the end of November.

The name Matt Stout sounds familiar, not sure. I graduated from high school in '88, which I noticed in your profile was the year you started high school. I was mostly involved with choir, drama and the lit. mag in those days. I just happened to have my jr. year book nearby (1986-1987) and didn't see either name, but they may have been there the next year.

I worked with a woman a couple of years ago that graduated from Judge in '88, but that was probably before your time there.

Ahh, two - I admire anyone who wants another child after living through the first rounds of a two year old. ;)

Those sound like great things to be involved with - I was only involved with the newspaper.

It is great to meet you, do you mind if I add you to my friends list?
